Proposed Committees
The adoption of these committees will be determined by vote at the October 8th PTO Meeting. It will be presented as an amendment to the By-Laws.
  • Sixth Grade Committee: This is already basically a parent/teacher committee that is formed each June for the following year's sixth grade to determine the graduation activities and fundraising needed for them. To include this committee as a PTO Committee provides communication with other committees to avoid conflicts in fundraising choices and scheduling and to inform PTO members without sixth graders what is being planned each year. In the by-laws it will read as such: Section 12- The Sixth Grade Committee shall be responsible for exploring options to help celebrate our sixth grade graduation. The activities of the Yantacaw PTO for which the Sixth Grade Committee Chairperson(s) are responsible, includes, but is not limited to, helping to choose appropriate activities within which the sixth grade class will participate; conceiving and implementing fundraisers to reach monetary needs of those set activities. A committee representative shall be present at each general PTO meeting to report progress.
  • Green Committee: A committee formed to expose our school and our children to environmentally responsible choices. Our first goal is recycling copy paper throughout the school. A plan will be made for clubs and community projects. In the by-laws it will read as such: Section 11- The Green Committee Chairpersons shall be responsible for helping our school community reduce waste, reuse, and recycle; make socially responsible, environmentally friendly choices; and engage in activities to promote the health of our environment and ourselves. This committee shall include parent, teacher, and student representation. The activities of the Yantacaw PTO for which the Green Committee Chairpersons are responsible include, but are not limited to: raising awareness of the importance of social and environmental responsibility; starting and maintaining a school recycling program; exploring options for reducing lunch-program and other school-wide waste; providing ideas, resources, and support for environmental education, curricula, and events; conceiving and helping to implement green fundraisers; bringing a green perspective and support to other PTO committees and activities; communicating with the media and press to highlight our school community's commitment to social and environmental responsibility. A committee representative shall be present at each general PTO meeting to report progress.
  • Academic Committee: A committee formed to assist and enhance the current curriculum of science, social studies and technology. We have such a wide range of expertise in our community of parents and teachers. This would be a venue to share ideas and concepts that may translate into educational opportunities. In the by-laws it will read as such: Section 13- The Academic Committee shall be responsible for helping staff meet needs for specific curriculum outcomes, starting in the areas of science, social studies, and technology. This committee shall include three teacher liaisons, one in each academic area listed above, to work with the committee in exploring specific needs. The activities of the Yantacaw PTO for which the Academic Committee Chairperson(s) are responsible, includes, but is not limited to, exploring options for specific, hands-on tools that will help facilitate better achievement of academic goals. A committee representative shall be present at each general PTO meeting to report progress.
  • Lunch Committee: A committee formed to examine options in activities for the students during lunch hour. In the by-laws it will read as such: Section 10- The Lunch Committee Chairpersons shall be responsible for exploring options to improve the overall environment of the school in relation to the needs of the children during this hour. The activities of the Yantacaw PTO for which the Lunch Committee Chairperson(s) are responsible, includes, but is not limited to exploring options for larger play area for children, ordering and replenishing playground equipment for use of children during the lunch hour, exploring possibility of expanding playground area to include "jungle gym" area, helping to set up lunch clubs for children to participate in during the winter months. A committee representative shall be present at each general PTO meeting to report progress.
