Our Korean Exchange Teachers

2009

The American Language Center at Bloomfield College sponsored the TICKET program (Total Immersion Course for Korean English Teachers).  This unique initiative was designed to address the Korean Ministry of Education's critical need to empower its native-born teachers to teach English utilizing the highest standards of English language proficiency and cutting-edge pedagogical practices.

The 50 Korean participants were selected from a group of 36,918 teachers.  They were the school district's top elementary educators whose primary focus is teaching English.

The teachers arrived in the United States at the end of August 2008.  They attended classes daily at Bloomfield College from September to late November.  They observed in elementary classrooms from November to December.  They assisted with lessons January and February and presented a final culture-related project before returning to Korea at the end of February.

Students and teachers enjoyed the experience this exchange program provided. The following pages show lessons and activities the students participated in. Some are just part of our everyday routine that we wanted to share with the students in Korea. Others are lessons we learned from the Korean teachers.
