Lesson Ideas for Geography Awareness
Here are quick and easy lesson ideas (some are borrowed from Education World) .
Have students identify on a world map the "homes" of some of their favorite book characters.
Ask students to design a country, create a map, and then write about it.
Make an ABC book of your community. Each letter should inform people about life in your community.
Have the students write "hello" in a different language on a small card. The students then place the card on the country where that language is spoken.
Check the weather in a different part of the world each day. Make a chart or create a spreadsheet with the information. 
Have the students research different countries and report what would be interesting to see there. Students can print a photo with their "must see" tip.
Have students research nps and identify and locate United States National Parks.
The National Historic Landmarks website can be searched for places to see.
Have the students find the natural habitat for a variety of animals. Create a database from the information collected.
Have the students research which states the Presidents of the United States were from. Create a database of the information.
Have the students use an encyclopedia or atlas and locate some unique city and town names in the United States.
Veteran's Day -honor those who have fought for the United States, have the students locate the Battlefields and Military Parks.

Geography Activities- your choice, take the quiz on ancient wonders or the state capitals. There are many wonderful challenges on this site.
Trivia Plaza-test your knowledge on landmarks, captials, world countries and world flags
Geography World- a matching game with geography vocabulary
Lewis and Clark-as a class take a trip west and follow the trail of Lewis and Clark. Help make some decisions and read documents written by the explorers.
