Physical Education Department Policies

Students are not to have chewing gum, candy or any food in class.
Chewing gum in the gym or on the Oval will result in Central Detention.
No jewelry is to be worn during class. Students should keep all jewelry, watches and other items locked in their lockers.

Body piercings, including earrings are not acceptable for physical education class. All piercings need to be removed before class or the student will be considered unprepared for class. If the piercing is new the student will be given 2 weeks from the date of the piercing for it to heal (a dated note from a qualified person must be presented). During that time the student will surround the pierced area with tape in order to provide protection for him/her as well as other students. Students must supply their own tape. Hoops are not permitted. Eyebrow, lip, nose and other body piercings are deemed hazardous and the student will not participate in regular physical education activity until it can be removed. During this time, the student will participate in an alternate activity approved by the teacher.

To be considered prepared for class the following criteria must be met:

The student should be wearing a T-shirt or sweatshirt and athletic cut shorts or sweat pants.
Sneakers are to provide support and be rubber soled with no heels, platforms or steel buckles. Appropriate footwear must be securely fastened.
Clean athletic socks are to be worn.

No stockings, panty hose or any other clothing is to be worn under physical education attire. Each time a student is unprepared 15 points will be deducted from their preparation grade.

Students with a medical excuse for more than three (3) days must have a signed doctor’s note. Students with a doctor’s note should see the nurse before school or during homeroom. Students with a medical excuse for less than three (3) days must have a signed note from home (parent or guardian).
Students are to report directly to their spot from the locker room. Students should not use any equipment unless under the direct supervision of a teacher (before, during or after class).
Anything that a student brings to the locker room is to be locked in their locker. No valuables should be brought to class.
Four areas that determine the physical education grade are: Preparation, Participation, Skill Assessment/Warm-ups and Fitness Testing. Each area is worth 25%.
