A. “No student will be excluded from any education program or activity because of pregnancy or related conditions unless she so requests or a physician certifies that such exclusion is necessary for the physical, mental, or emotional well-being. Absence from school because of pregnancy will be treated like any other temporary absence.”

It
is the policy of the Nutley School District not to discriminate on the basis of
gender, race, color, creed, religion, age, marital status, nationality,
national origin, disability, or sexual orientation, in its educational programs
or activities and employment policies as required by Title IX of the
Educational Amendments of 1972 and N.J.A.C. 6:4-1.1 et. Seq. Inquiries or complaints may be directed to

GRIEVANCE
PROCEDURE
In keeping with federal/state anti-discrimination, the Nutley Board of Education has adopted and hereby publishes grievance information providing for the resolution of student, employee, and parent complaints.
PURPOSE:
To provide students, employees, and
parents a procedure by which they may seek a remedy for alleged violations
related to discrimination on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, sex,
handicap, ancestry, national origin, or social or economic status.
DEFINITION:
Grievant
– Any student, employee, or parent aggrieved by a decision or condition falling
under the guidelines of federal and/or state anti-discrimination laws.
Grievance
Officer – The district employee designated to coordinate compliance efforts
with anti-discrimination legislation and charged with the responsibility of
investigating complaints.
Grievance
forms are available in each of the administrative offices in the district and
from the office of the Superintendent of Schools.

Students in Nutley Public Schools are expected to treat one another and staff members with respect regardless of gender, race, color, creed, religion, age, marital status, nationality, national origin, disability, or sexual orientation. Inappropriate touching of a sexual nature, gender based or racial comments and/or jokes, and name calling of any kind by students are not permitted on the way to and from school, on school property, at any school-sponsored events, or on any transportation vehicle provided and sponsored by the Board. All instances of such harassment are to be reported to the building administration or any other district administrator. Parents will be contacted and the appropriate action will be taken. Interventions include, but are not limited to supportive counseling, detentions, suspensions, expulsions or contacting district and local authorities.
